First Meeting

I remember the first time that I met Nels. It was December 1950 and Beverly was bringing this man home to Montevideo from Antioch College. They came home to us in an old ’39 or ‘40 Ford or Chevy in what probably was the coldest and snowiest December that I can recall. The car a convertible had holes in the floor boards. It must have been very cold. But love won out and they made it safe and sound. Later that Christmas I came around the corner into our dining room and found Nels was offering an engagement ring to Beverly. She accepted! I think I can safely say that they had a twinkle in their eyes for each and every one of you.
